At the Feb­ru­ary meet­ing, Alice intro­duced us to Isa Sevrain, a ceramic artist. As it turned out, she is also a painter and col­lage artist. Isa calls her­self a dancer and a mime, tal­ents which became appar­ent through­out her presentation. Isa comes from France, and has lived in Canada for two decades. There was no deny­ing her French back­ground dur­ing her demon­stra­tion. It was a delight watch­ing her “act­ing out” her joys and fears of explor­ing clay and to fol­low her along the steps from the raw mate­r­ial to the fin­ished mosaic…”

I was amazed at the effort she puts into paint­ing each piece with under­glazes.  When fired at low tem­per­a­ture, these allow her all the strong colours of the rain­bow.  She uses wax resists and tex­tures to achieve fur­ther effects in her quest for com­plex and con­fi­dent expres­sion.  Noth­ing is held back.  This artist is any­thing but timid.”
